Rewind: When I was pregnant with Maggie at the first ultrasound there was a "white spot" on her heart that we had to have watched throughout my pregnancy to see if it grew or changed throughout my pregnancy. After so long I was released from seeing the specialist since nothing had changed, but the spot was still there they told me to have her Dr. check her out when she was born. She came and her Dr. checked her and her heart sounded perfect and sent us on our way!
Fast Forward: Maggie's 2 yr. old well check I just had this inkling to ask about that heart issue and what would come of it. The Dr. was under the impression that the spot had gone away and that's why I didn't have to see the specialist anymore- since I told him the spot never went away he decided it was best to get it looked into just in case it was something that could turn into something worse or we needed to have an eye on, better safe than sorry. So we scheduled an appointment with Dr. Ethridge from Primary Children's who comes down to St. George every so often for visits!
Today: We had to be at the hospital at 8:00 for her ECHO (Echo-cardiogram- ultrasound of the heart) I was freaked because they told me it was an hour process and she had to lay still the whole time- the lady said maybe have her be tired so she can sleep-its 8AM she would not be tired.. So I grabbed a bag of fun things and off we went bright and early-(Janet watched Molly and had a sleepover so she would not have to get up early and be dropped off so early)-Molly was in heaven and Mag was equally excited for her Dr. appointment cuz I hyped it up!
We got there and went right inside to the room we hardly had time to pull anything but the IPAD out of our bag of tricks- First up was Weight, Height, Pulse Ox, and Blood Pressure- She was such a big girl the whole time and didn't even whimper!
They let her pick out a movie to watch while they did the ECHO and then
had us change her to a gown top- she was not thrilled with this idea- She picked Dora out of there DVDs I should have brought her Minnie one-o well!
They had to put the 3 leads or whatever they are called on her chest and she loved that cuz she loves stickers! She looks a little un sure in this picture she was a bit nervous listening to the tech tell her what he was going to do!
The tech was showing her on the screen what it looked like and she listened so intently and pointed out the colors...
Every time he would put new gel on the ultrasound wand and on her tummy/chest she giggled and said " It tickle me mommy, it tickle" They had to do the test from 4 different spots on her- First upper chest, Side by rib cage, stomach, and throat- She was so good and sat extremely still she didn't even wanna eat the sucker they offered! Just her 2 blanks and holding my hand was enough to keep her happy!
She was trying not to smile at me- The actual test was about 40 min.- after she was done the tech said "Well Miss Maggie, you saved yourself a lot of misery by sitting still and not needing the sedated Echo- most kids under 3 get sedated so they don't move during the test! Maggie was a rock star!!
Dr. Ethridge met with us in another room-She reminded me of Fancy Nancy with her super curly red hair and happy peppy personality- She made Maggie feel pretty special and important-she is the perfect Dr. for a Children's hospital! She said Maggie's ECHO was absolutely perfect and her heart was as healthy as can be. The spot must have just disappeared and we may never know what it was or why it was there, but we don't need to worry about her sweet heart any more! She said she would have had it looked into further too so she is glad we got it looked at just to be safe!
After the test, I had told Maggie if she was a good girl and listened to the Dr. then we could go to Target and pick a prize. No surprise what she picked- A new La La Loopsy and a princess phone! She was a happy camper and a rock star I couldn't be more proud of how brave she was and how still she sat-anyone that knows Mag knows she is a mover! I also could not be more relieved that her little heart is perfect as can be!
